The objective is clear: Borussia Dortmund are aiming to "get something to take home" from their match in Milan on Wednesday. A decision as to whether Roman Bürki can play will be made on the day of the match itself.

The shot-stopper was between the sticks for the final training session. The question – to which there will probably not be an answer until the morning – is how the injured knee copes. Lucien Favre was certainly confident prior to the session. "It should be okay, but it's not yet totally certain", he said.

"There are still four matches. A lot can still happen in every group," said the coach of the pre-match constellation. Barca and Borussia currently sit atop Group F with four points each, but Inter could draw level with a victory against BVB. "It's a very important match for my team. That's why we need to be totally focused on our game," declared the head coach. A draw would at least keep the Milan giants at bay and leave the Black & Yellows in a good position ahead of the return fixture a fortnight later. Their objective clear-cut. "We obviously want to qualify (for the Round of 16)," as Favre put it.

Inter, who have won seven of their eight matches in the Italian league and currently sit second behind Juve, "misjudged" Slavia Prague, with whom they drew 1-1, on Champions League Matchday 1. They then unluckily lost to Barcelona, undeservedly going down 2-1, and will certainly be full of motivation ahead of their meeting with the Black & Yellows. "Everyone knows we'll be up against a very, very good side," warned Favre. "We watched several matches, we know this team. They're very efficient and strong in defence."

Julian Weigl, who joined Lucien Favre on the podium at the international press conference, is of a similar mind. "They have quality in every position. Otherwise they wouldn't playing in the Champions League and in the position they're in in Serie A," said the defensive specialist, who is gearing up for an intense evening tonight. "We'll be conducting a video analysis focusing on Inter's strengths, where they have problems, where we can strike."

Dortmund will be hoping to take the self-belief they gained from the win over Gladbach into the game tomorrow. "The win for us was very important, as was the manner of it. We come here with the wind in our sails," said Weigl. "All in all, we defended very well and threw ourselves into everything. They're important virtues. We're at the start of a tough period of fixtures and we want to take a step forward tomorrow, play our game and get something to take home."
