Our Black & Yellow Legends began the long journey to Sao Paulo on Friday evening. A 12-hour flight lies in store for the former BVB players, who will take part in the Legends Cup at the Estadio do Morumbi on Sunday (live broadcast on BVB TV). It is the third official trip for the Legends after their tours in Thailand and Hong Kong.

The opening fixture on Sunday evening will see coach Jörg Heinrich's charges take on FC Barcelona, with FC Sao Paulo and FC Bayern Munich to contest the second match afterwards. That will be followed by the third-place play-off and then, lastly, the final. The day before, the trio of Marcio Amoroso, Ewerthon and Julio Cesar will watch BVB's Bundesliga game in Mainz together with the FC Sao Paulo Fan Club.

With a population verging on 12.3 million, Sao Paulo is Brazil's largest city. Yet even here – some 10,000 kilometres away from the Ruhr region – there are football fans whose hearts are very much Black & Yellow. For the Brazilians Evanilson, Júlio César, Tinga, Ewerthon, Dede, Amoroso and Felipe Santana, it's like a home game – just one away from SIGNAL IDUNA PARK, in 30-degree temperatures. "Playing in a Borussia Dortmund shirt in my homeland will be an unbelievable experience," says Dede before the trip. Our lads will be up against the likes of Cafu, Lugano, Denilson, Zé Roberto, Giovane Elber and Miroslav Klose at the Estadio do Morumbi, which holds 67,000 fans.

One man with particularly fond memories of Brazil is Borussia's title-winning shot-stopper Roman Weidenfeller, who was part of the Germany squad that won the 2014 World Cup at the famous Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. "That makes me even more excited about returning and playing in the Legends Cup," said Weidenfeller (Preview: BVB out to mesmerise Brazil).

Our squad for Brazil: Roman Weidenfeller – Evanilson, Juan Fernandez, Miroslav Stevic, Julio Cesar, Florian Kringe, Tinga, Jan Koller, Mladen Petric, Mohamed Zidan, Ewerthon, Karl-Heinz Riedle, Dede, Jörg Heinrich, Lucas Barrios, Oliver Kirch, Amoroso, Patrick Owomoyela, Felipe Santana
