Goals are practically guaranteed when Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt square off – there are 3.4 per game on average and there has only ever been one goalless draw. We've compiled everything you need to know about the match on Friday (kick-off 20:30 CET) into the usual compact format.

The scenario: BVB and SGE are third and second in the post-winter break form table at present with nine and 10 out of a possible 12 points respectively. Borussia did not lose a single Bundesliga match against Eintracht between 2017 and 2019. There were three wins at home and three draws away.

Home/away: Borussia Dortmund have won three of their past four games at Signal Iduna Park and are unbeaten in 11 Bundesliga matches in front of their own fans. Only Mönchengladbach have more home victories (eight) than Dortmund (seven). Frankfurt have picked up only one win in their last seven away games – the first game back after the winter break in Hoffenheim – and have the third-worst away record in the division with seven points.

Personnel matters: BVB are without Reus, Brandt and Delaney, while Fernandes, Russ and Torro are missing for SGE.

Head-to-head record: The Black & Yellows have beaten Frankfurt more times than any other club (44), have a better historical goal difference against the Hesse outfit than anyone else (+49) and have only kept more clean sheets against Cologne (26). BVB have won each and every one of their past eight home games against SGE – their longest home winning run against any current Bundesliga club. The Black & Yellows have scored at least two goals in each of their past 10 home games and at least three in each of their last four on home turf.

Statistics: Only Leipzig have suffered fewer defeats than Dortmund (four), who have scored at least one goal in each of their past 10 Bundesliga matches. They have netted 18 times in four matches since the winter break. Frankfurt have scored 37 goals – above the league average of 34.

Biggest home win: The Black & Yellows have beaten the Eagles 6-0 twice before. The first, watched by 22,507 spectators on 26 November 1988, came courtesy of a hat-trick from Günter Breitzke and further goals from Michael Zorc, Norbert Dickel and Frank Pagelsdorf. Seven and a half years later, on 23 March 1996, Karlheinz Riedle (two), Michael Zorc, Steffen Freund, Jörg Heinrich and Stéphane Chapuisat all scored in the opening 65 minutes in front of a sell-out 42,400 crowd.

Referee: Bastian Dankert from Rostock is refereeing his 102nd Bundesliga match, though it is only his fourth involving Borussia Dortmund. The 39-year-old has only taken charge of one game at Signal Iduna Park – a 3-1 win over SC Freiburg on 13 September 2014. In 2018, he oversaw BVB's 1-0 away win in Mönchengladbach and the 6-0 defeat in Munich.

Attendance: Signal Iduna Park is sold out with 81,365 set to attend! The visitors from Frankfurt will be bringing 4,500 fans. As a result, the away ticket office and the day ticket office will remain closed.
