The Borussia Dortmund U19s prepared for their showdown with title rivals Bayer Leverkusen next Saturday by beating Viktoria Cologne to extend their winning run to seven consecutive games.

The adverse weather conditions – gusty wind and constant rain – made it difficult to play football and presented challenges for both sides. But BVB came out on top in the end and got the better of an away side coached by former player Jürgen Kohler thanks to their technically more mature and superior performance. Viktoria also lost defender Kisekka to a red card in the 22nd minute.

Youssoufa Moukoko kicked off the scoring in the 24th minute after Alaa Bakir had earlier had a penalty saved by Cologne shot-stopper Yannik Hasenbein. The Black & Yellows went up a gear after the interval, doubling their lead through a Felix Strauß own goal in the 51st minute before Alaa Bakir, Niclas Knoop and Moukoko added further goals. Viktoria pulled a goal back with the score at 4-0.

The result means BVB remain level on points with 1. FC Cologne at the summit. Below them in the table are Leverkusen and Mönchengladbach in third and fourth place respectively. (wiwi)
