Borussia Dortmund and Mike Tullberg will continue their sporting relationship in the future. Lars Ricken, the director of the youth academy, and the U19 head coach have agreed to keep their cooperation going until at least 30 June 2024.

With still more than a year to go before his initial contract expires, the 35-year-old Dane's wish for a long-term future with BVB has been granted. Tullberg said: "I'm looking forward to continuing my enjoyable and successful time in the BVB family. We want to continue to develop talent for Borussia Dortmund through targeted measures and enable them to make the transition from youth to professional football. The good communication among ourselves and the trusting working relationship within the youth academy provide the platform for a first-class collaboration here at BVB."

Tullberg arrived at BVB from Danish club Vendsyssel FF in 2019 and spent the first season coaching the U23s, before taking over the U19s last summer.

"Mike Tullberg understands the value of supporting every single player with their individual development and, at the same time, he has ambitions to be as successful as possible with the team. I am very happy that he has extended his contract," declared Lars Ricken. Before the season was interrupted by the coronavirus, his team boasted a flawless record with 12 points from four games. Ricken continued: "With his experience as a coach as well as a former player, and with his communicative and honest manner, Mike is an important factor in developing the entire youth academy and enabling players to realise their dream of playing professional football."
