The Borussia Dortmund women's handball team will be looking to bounce back from their first defeat of the season – against CMS Bucharest in the EHF Champions League at the weekend – when they resume their Bundesliga campaign on Wednesday evening. André Fuhr's team are away to HSG Bensheim/Auerbach at 19:30 CET.

"We needed some time to process our first defeat of the season," said André Fuhr of the days that followed the aforementioned Champions League match. The BVB coach is satisfied with his team despite their 25-22 loss, saying: "We didn't perform badly; it was the little things that weren't good – and, to put it simply, our opponent had world-class players in their ranks. The match showed that we are rather competitive in the Champions League and that we're continuing to give a decent account of ourselves."

On Wednesday evening, the Borussia ladies will switch their attention from the Champions League back to the Bundesliga and their clash with HSG Bensheim/Auerbach, who sit eighth in the table with a point tally of 5-5. "Bensheim are always an unpleasant opponent, especially as their performances fluctuate a lot. They're stronger at home than they are away," said Fuhr, who is particularly wary of the home side's good switch and pivot play. "We cannot allow ourselves by deceived by their heavy defeat against Buxtehude," said the BVB coach, in reference to HSG's 34-22 loss away to BSV.

In addition to the long-term injury absentees Dana Bleckmann, Haruno Sasaki, Viktoria Woth and Delaila Amega, Tessa van Zijl will also be absent on Wednesday. "We still have a problem in the back left area," said Fuhr. "You could also see on Sunday that we struggled to score simple goals and need to bring more creativity and tempo into our play."

The match against HSG Bensheim/Auerbach – against whom BVB have a positive head-to-head record with 13 wins, two draws and three defeats – will get under way at Weststadthalle Bensheim at 19:30 CET on Wednesday evening and will be shown live on Sportdeutschland.TV.
