''The cup has huge importance. It’s the opportunity to win a trophy in six games. We all want to achieve this and that’s what we’re working towards,'' said BVB coach Marco Rose ahead of the second-round clash with FC Ingolstadt 04 on Tuesday (kick-off 20:00 CET).

Defending champions Borussia Dortmund won 3-0 against SV Wehen Wiesbaden in the first round. On Tuesday evening, Ingolstadt - the team placed bottom of the Bundesliga 2 - are the visitors at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK. "It's a must-win game against a second-tier team. We absolutely want to make it through to the next round," Rose said. "Our opponents have nothing to lose. They’ll want to take a break from their relegation battle by trying their luck at beating Borussia Dortmund." The coach gave his team the following advice: "If, from the start, we perform in the way Borussia Dortmund should do in a cup home game, we’ll make it very difficult for Ingolstadt.'' However, if his side let the game open up, then "you can also have problems in a cup match against Ingolstadt. I'll spell that out clearly to the lads and then it's up to us how we approach it."

While Ingolstadt suffered a 1-0 defeat in Aue at the weekend, BVB showed an excellent reaction to the loss in Amsterdam by picking up a 3-1 win away to Arminia Bielefeld on Saturday. "The team did what I expect of them. We reacted really well to a bad game. Tomorrow we'll have to pick up where we left off, with the exact same confidence, focus and clarity." Rose was particularly effusive in his praise for his team's counter-pressing and beautiful goals: "We did a lot of the things we want to do out on the pitch. But that's all in the past now, it's time to look ahead."

It remains to be seen whether or not Donyell Malen will be able to participate. The striker has a stomach bug and will sit out training on Tuesday. Goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, who had to be substituted on Saturday due to injury, felt better on Sunday but is yet to make his return to training. "In any case, the idea was to put Marwin in goal tomorrow. He did brilliantly after coming on as a substitute in Bielefeld. We have great confidence in him and don't need to take any risks with Gregor," said the coach as he suggested that Marwin Hitz will line up between the sticks.
