Spurred on by another outstanding Marie Grothe performance, the Borussia Dortmund women's footballers ran out 4-0 (2-0) winners in their Bezirksliga match against Eintracht Dorstfeld. Grothe netted a hat-trick, as she did a week ago.

"Oops!... I did it again," was the hit song released by Britney Spears in 2000. And more than two decades later, Marie Grothe was the embodiment of that pop classic. Having already bagged a treble in the top match against Lohauserholz last Sunday, the midfielder hit another hat-trick against Eintracht Dorstfeld. The league leaders from Strobelallee, who have looked so confident of late, made a slow start against their deep-lying visitors with two shots from Grothe and Ann-Katrin Lau – in the 17th and 19th minutes respectively – the most dangerous moments. "Overall, we had too little belief in ourselves and that made it difficult for us to get into dangerous areas," analysed coach Thomas Sulewski after the match.

It therefore came as no surprise that BVB opened the scoring via a set-piece. Marie Grothe perfectly struck a free-kick from a centre-right position 20 metres out over the wall and into the top-right corner, leaving SVE keeper Stratmann with no chance (27). The opener emboldened Sulewski's charges, who got into better and better shooting positions and upped their advantage to 2-0 on 37 minutes. Lisa Klemann carried the ball deep into the opposition half and threaded it through the last line of defence towards Grothe, who rounded the goalie and tapped in her second.

With a 2-0 lead under their belts, the BVB women were slightly more courageous in the second period and continued to create good opportunities. An unmarked Ann-Katrin Lau could have notched the third goal of the game in the 68th minute, only to be denied by the good reactions of the Dorstfeld shot-stopper. But she was beaten only a minute later by Grothe, who fired Klemann's low cutback from the byline inside the near post from the edge of the six-yard box.

After Kimberly Becker had fired the ball over the bar from 10 metres out in the 74th minute, the final goal of the game came when Isabel Nowak slotted the ball into her own net two minutes from time (88). "We're of course satisfied that we won. We were the better team, but we can certainly play significantly better," concluded Thomas Sulewski, who subsequently singled out Marie Grothe for praise. "A top player who's already become indispensable for us. We're happy that she's with us."
