The Soccer Tournament, the $1 million, winner-take-all, 7v7 world championship playing its inaugural event in Cary, NC from June 1-4, 2023, today announced the entry of legendary German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in the 32-team event.

Borussia Dortmund becomes the 13thpublicly announced team in TST’s field, joining Welsh club Wrexham AFC owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, English Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C., MLS club Charlotte FC, and former U.S. Men’s National Team star Clint Dempsey’s Team Dempsey, among others.

“We are proud to join the inaugural TST and we will make sure to field the most diverse and ambitious Borussia Dortmund team,” said Benedikt Scholz, BVB’s Director of Internationalisation & Commercial Partnerships. “We treat this as yet another important step to make Black & Yellow permanent colors in the United States and to closely engage with our ever-growing US fanbase.”

"We are excited to welcome Borussia Dortmund to TST," said TBT founder and CEO Jon Mugar. "Since announcing in October, we have received close to four hundred applicants for our 32-team event. Borussia Dortmund is a juggernaut. We can't wait to see what kind of team they bring to Cary, North Carolina in June."

Borussia Dortmund’s TST team will feature a mixture of BVB club legends, coaches from Dortmund and the U.S. and other high-profile personalities.  Official commitments for Borussia Dortmund’s TST team will be announced through the TST’s social media channels, @TST7V7, as well as the club’s.

If Borussia Dortmund were to win TST’s $1M prize, the club plans to donate the winnings to Street Soccer USA, a non-profit organization that fights poverty and strengthens communities through soccer, as part of Dortmund’s commitment to soccer’s growth in the United States amongst the underprivileged.

Formed in 1909, Borussia Dortmund is internationally recognized for its great level of domestic and European success. Winners of eight German championships, five DFB-Pokals (German Cup) and seven German Supercups, BVB also was the first ever German club to win a European Cup (Cup Winners’ Cup) in 1965 and the first from the Bundesliga to win the UEFA Champions League (as well as the Intercontinental Cup) in 1997. Dortmund has one of the largest fan bases in the world and with the largest football stadium in Germany known for its legendary Yellow Wall, a stand that holds 25,000 fans alone, their supporters display one of the highest average attendance levels in the world.

Featuring an unprecedented, million dollar, winner-take-all prize, TST aims to become the defining world championship for 7v7 soccer, attracting the most competitive soccer players in the world to an annual, highly intense format that follows the World Cup structure, pinning 32 teams against each other in group play before moving into the knockout stages.
