In the first half, BVB were extremely efficient: Borussia Dortmund had only four shots in the first 45 minutes, three of which were on target – and all of them went in! The final shots tallies were 22-10. It was 16-6 in the second half. Here are the match facts for the final:

Clear final victories: As in 1989 (4-1 against Bremen) and 2012 (5-2 against Bayern), BVB celebrated a clear final victory.

Goal factory: BVB scored 20 goals in the cup this season, with nine of them coming in the semi-finals (5-0 against Kiel) and final (4-1).

Fast starters: In six of their ten DFB-Pokal finals, BVB have scored an early goal (in the opening 15 minutes). Sancho's opener was the earliest goal in a DFB-Pokal final since 2015. That day too, it was a Dortmund man that struck in the fifth minute, when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opened the scoring against Wolfsburg (final score 1-3).

Braces: Erling Haaland is now the youngest player to score a brace in the cup final. He took that honour from Jadon Sancho, who held the record for only about an hour... Haaland has played three competitive games against Leipzig and has scored twice in every one.

Staking their claim to a spot at the Euros: With Joachim Löw watching on in the stands and just a few days before the announcement of the squad for the European Championships, Mats Hummels (73% duels won) and Marco Reus (two assists) put in very good performances.

Quartet from 2017: Four Borussia players had been in the starting line-up in BVB's last cup final game in 2017 against Frankfurt: Bürki, Guerreiro, Piszczek and Reus.
