The Borussia Dortmund women's handball team have been back from Montenegro, where they beat Buducnost in the Champions League, since Monday. On Wednesday (19:30 CET) they are in Bundesliga action again – against Buxtehuder SV at Halle Wellinghofen.

"We got home safely," said BVB coach André Fuhr – who arrived back in Dortmund with his players on Monday evening at 19:00 CET – before adding: "Of course it was a tiring trip, that's part and parcel of Champions League travel." Although all the Borussia Dortmund players who were on the court for Sunday's 34-29 win over Buducnost came back healthy, "it placed a big strain on such a small squad, it was an intense game," explained Fuhr, who will still have to do without Mia Zschocke, Tessa van Zijl, Jennifer Gutiérrez Bermejo, Haruno Sasaki and the long-term injury absentees Delaila Amega and Viktoria Woth when Buxtehude come to town.

"We're therefore looking ahead to the game against Buxtehude with concern; we have had very little time to recuperate," said the BVB coach. Plus, there's also the fact that BSV caused the Black & Yellows some significant problems last season. BVB lost to Dirk Leun's side, who have won both of their first two Bundesliga matches this term, in the DHB-Pokal. It proved to be their only defeat of the entire season.

The club from up north have the better overall head-to-head record too: Borussia have beaten BSV on nine occasions, but there have been 15 defeats in addition to one draw. "We've been warned and will try to prepare ourselves as well as possible," said Fuhr.

After the total delight at picking up Champions League points two and three – the Black & Yellows currently occupy third place in Group A of the competition – Fuhr now needs to switch his team's focus to the bread and butter of the Bundesliga. "We know that the league matches are more important. We can't let anything slip, I hope that everyone will be able to focus again because we need more than the full commitment of every player against Buxtehude."

The match against Buxtehuder SV at Halle Wellinghofen will kick off at 19:30 CET on Wednesday evening and will be shown live on the BVB Twitch channel and Sportdeutschland.TV. There are still tickets available from the box office on the day; all the info can be found here.
