The BVB women reached double digits on the second Sunday of Advent, beating SF Westfalia Hagen 10-0 (3-0). Ana Louisa Zabell shone in the Bezirksliga Matchday 14 clash, scoring a perfect hat-trick in the space of only seven minutes.

The Borussia Dortmund women's team in the Bezirksliga are marching unstoppably towards the Landesliga. Zabell was joined on the scoresheet in the double-digit win over Westfalia Hagen by Lea Rogge-Herper, Marina Jung, Vanessa Kuhl and Annika Billig. A slip from Lohauserholz means Sulewski's side will spend the winter break 12 points clear at the top.

Coach Thomas Sulewski made three changes to the starting XI that beat Bork by an 8-0 scoreline. Lea Auffenberg and captain Lisa Klemann started in the full-back berths in place of Allegra Gerres and Virginia Glänzer (both substitutes), while Ana Louisa Zabell began in midfield instead of Mia Macarena Bedarf (holiday).

In temperatures narrowly above freezing, moments of note were few and far between in the opening stages – with Vanessa Kuhl's free-kick that hit the post the only highlight (16). The visitors from Hagen focused solely on keeping it compact in defence. BVB goalkeeper Stefanie Scheibe had almost nothing to do throughout the 90 minutes.

The breakthrough for the Black & Yellows came from Lea Rogge-Herper. The midfielder struck the woodwork with a volley from a Mandy Reinhardt cross but then saw the ball rebound to her feet and easily slotted home at the second attempt to put her side in front (27). The second goal only two minutes later was the result of some lovely link-up play: Zabell played the ball towards the byline into the path of Lau, whose cross was flicked on by Reinhardt. Rogge-Herper was lurking behind her ready to pull the trigger, only for Hagen's Jennifer Falke to direct her attempted clearance into her own net.

The floodgates were now open, and the winter champions upped their lead before the break. Marina Jung showed the courage to go for goal from 25 metres and her shot slid under keeper Kyra Heilmann and into the bottom right corner (36).

"The girls then got into a roll in the second half. They did well to get to the byline time and time again and scored some lovely goals," according to Sulewski. A cross from Zabell found its way into the back of the net despite the majority of the 133-strong crowd – including goalkeeper Heilmann – expecting that it would go over (52). Two minutes later, Rogge-Herper teed up Vanessa Kuhl in the box who fired left-footed inside the near post. As their opponents grew increasingly tired, the lively Black & Yellows continued to enjoy success with their link-up play. Lisa Klemann set up the unmarked Annika Billig for 6-0 (66), with the seventh goal of the day an own goal from Hagen's Stefanie Nölle (74).

The match and year were then rounded off in some style as Ana Louisa Zabell scored a perfect hat-trick in the space of seven minutes. Carolin Kaul, Luisa Bergmann and Lea Auffenberg put the goals on a plate for Zabell, who was left with simple tap-ins each time (78, 83 and 85). Asked about her rare achievement, Zabell was surprised: "Oh, really? I didn't really realise that on the pitch. Crazy. I've never managed that before."

As closest challengers Germania Lohauserholz lost 1-0 away to Eintracht Dorstfeld, the BVB women will now spend the winter break 12 points clear at the summit. "We've won all our competitive games this calendar year, so I'm very proud of the team. The girls have earned themselves this break," said a satisfied coach Sulewski, with Zabell adding: "I'm looking forward to regenerating somewhat and letting everything sink in a bit. We'll then go on the attack again in January, as we still have big ambitions." In terms of their league campaign, promotion to the Landesliga must be the goal for 2023.
