Several tens of thousands of people attended the Borussia Dortmund fan festival on the hottest day of the year, with fans braving temperatures as high as 37 degrees in the shade to head to the season opening event at Strobelallee.

And braving the heat was well worth it too. "It was so much fun. And I didn't find it to be too hot at all," said eight-year-old Ben from Kemminghausen, who showed what he could do in a shooting contest before getting well and truly stuck into a mini-match.

The REWE Family Festival offered something for the entire family, including boys and girls and all age groups. "We love coming here every year," said Jutta Krause, a young mother who had prepared for the day out by buying "four litres of Apfelschorle and a tube of sun tan lotion" for her two little ones. REWE also provided more than enough drinks stands for those who hadn't stocked up in advance.

The BVB Module Park was just as surrounded by throngs of fans as the stage at Strobelallee. Meanwhile, those seeking to avoid the heat were welcome to take a tour of the Borusseum, the club museum.

A further highlight of the event was the presentation of the team by stadium announcer Norbert Dickel. The applause that rang out for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or Marco Reus grew even louder for new signings Gonzalo Castro, Julian Weigl and Roman Bürki, who gave a short interview in which they stated how happy they were to be wearing the Black and Yellow of Dortmund.
