Borussia Dortmund’s U23 won their second game of the season on match day ten of the Regionalliga West. One week after their 1-0 away victory at FC Kray, David Wagner’s team beat SC Wiedenbrück 3-1 (1-1) in front of 1000 spectators in the Roten Erde stadium and reduced the gap to the non-relegation places to two points.

After the guests had more of the game at the start, the Borussia team managed to calm things down a bit as time went on. However it took until the 34.minute before the first dangerous action took place: Ducksch tried to scoop the ball from 14 metres, but Wiedenbrück’s goalkeeper Hölscher just managed to divert the ball away from the goal. The corner that was to follow was initially defended, however BVB won the second ball and Maruoka was suddenly unmarked in the penalty area, laid the ball back for Eberwein and all he had to do was push the ball into the empty goal.

BVB was now really controlling the game, but they were also lucky that Knystock’s handball in the penalty area went unpunished. However just before half-time Wiedenbrück surprised everyone by scoring the equaliser: Batarilo had free space in front of him and whacked the ball from a good 25 metres into the net, not leaving Bonmann any chance at all. A shock just before half-time.

In the second half both team’s lost possession a lot. But Borussia kept fighting to the end. Wagner brought on Harder for Zimmermann to strengthen the attack – and he got his just rewards. However it was Hanke who finally really made the difference. Wagner praised the striker: “he is a real weapon due to his speed and the way he can shoot.” And he showed everyone what he could do. He safely took Dieckmann’s through ball in his stride and put the ball into the net with brute force (84.). Just four minutes later the player who was still playing in the Oberliga last season won the ball again and didn’t leave Wiedenbrück’s goalkeeper Marcel Hölscher any chance at all with his 20 metre shot right into the corner.
