The first tears are dry now. 250 fans said farewell and applauded the team team on Sunday before they start their summer break, when they formed a guard of honour in front of the training centre in the Adi-Preißler-Allee. Borussia Dortmund finished season 2015/16 in second place in both the league and the Cup.

"Only" second place - or two times a remarkable achievement? Looking at it emotionally and rationally you might have two ways of evaluating how successful the season was. Kicker-Sportmagazin wrote: "BVB renewed their not so nice subscription to second place yet again in Berlin and they will have to feel peeved that they have now come in second for the eighth time since 2008. On the other hand there is no other club that performs consistently at such a high level. Hans-Joachim Watzke said even before BVB lost the Cup  Final in Berlin in the penalty shoot-out: "everything is relative. The opponent has been Bayern Munich for the fourth time in a row since 2012 if you add the Champions League Final. If you are Borussia Dortmund you cannot assume you will automatically win if Bayern is the opponent.

Thomas Tuchel's first season statistically stands as the best season in the club's history. Just eight defeats in 56 competitive games: that has never happened before. And actually there are really only seven defeats, because officially the Cup Final against Bayern Munich goes down as a draw; the way we look at it we see it as a defeat, because it feels like we 'lost'...

However percentage wise there has not been a season with less defeats. In 1991/92 and 2010/11 BVB did leave the pitch on fewer occasions as the losing team, however they played twelve and 16 less games less respectively than in season 2015/16. Boris Rupert
