Borussia Dortmund has secured the services of another key person for their Youth Academy in addition to Youth Academy Coordinator Lars Ricken for the long term. Edwin Boekamp, the head of sports within the BVB Youth Academy department extended his contract prematurely until the 30.June 2021.

Boekamp has been with Borussia Dortmund in various capacities since 1987, with interruptions as the A-Youth Head Coach at VFL Bochum (1989/90) and also as assistant coach to Michael Skibbe at Galatasaray Istanbul, Eintracht Frankfurt, Eskisehirspor and Hertha BSC (2008-2013).

Sporting Director Michael Zorc said: "together with Lars Ricken, Edwin Boekamp is responsible for our Youth Academy teams winning many top places  and titles in the past few years and for our own talented young players being integrated into the professional squad more and more."

Boekamp noted, "that I really enjoy working together with the whole team, especially Lars Ricken. This has always been the case. Lars and I won the first A-Youth German Championship for BVB as player and Head Coach in 1994. In 1998 I was the Head Coach of the team that was the last team to bring this title to Dortmund. I now very much hope that Hannes Wolf will take over from me with his team in this regard this coming weekend."

This Sunday (13:00 hrs) Wolf and the BVB U19 team will face TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in the final for the German Championship in Sinsheim.
