Borussia Dortmund's U17 team passed up the opportunity to secure a title hat-trick as well as a club double in the A- and B-Youth Championships. In the final, Benjamin Hoffman's team were closely defeated by their rivals from the West, Bayer Leverkusen, 0-2 (0-0) in front of 6,150 spectators at the Stadion Rote Erde, though not unjustly.

The game started well for the Black and Yellows. Aydinel had an opportunity to take the game to 1-0 as early as the third minute, bending an effort round the guests' keeper on the counter, but was only able to find the outside of the net. Again in the 15' minute, lady luck deserted the boys from Borussia, as the Leverkusen keeper let a shot from distance slip through his fingers, and was lucky that the ball went over the bar. The following corner was headed narrowly wide by Kilian.

On the other side of the pitch, BVB goalkeeper Schragl, who in the course of 84 exhilarating minutes staked his claim to be man of the match, had just prior to that prevented the opposition from getting the first goal of the game themselves with a stunning save. In a game characterised by high quality play over long periods of time, both teams maintained a high tempo and created chances. Nonetheless, the players went into the changing room at half-time with score still level at 0-0; not least because the referee ignored a clear foul on Kopacz in the guests' penalty box just before the break (40').

After the break, the Black and Yellows found it increasingly hard to replicate the performance level they had demonstrated in the first half. Leverkusen were increasingly gaining the upper hand. After a one-two, Havertz found the back of the net, taking the game to 0-1 (59'). Thereafter, Schragl was able to keep his team in the game with a series of strong saves. The boys from Borussia lifted themselves once more for the final phase of the game. Bulut, who had come on as a substitute, failed to convert in the last minute of regular time. Bayer then wrapped up victory at the end of five added minutes.
