Borussia Dortmund has lost the last pre-season friendly before the Supercup next Sunday against Bayern Munich: they lost 0-1 (0-1) against Atletico Bilbao in St.Gallen. Overall BVB gave quite a poor performance in which Aubameyang missed a penalty and Pulisic hit the post.

Boris Rupert reports from St.Gallen

Mario Götze and André Schürrle were in the starting line-up for the first time after nine training sessions with their team mates and they created the first good chance for BVB: Götze to Schürrle, however the Bilbao goalie turned the ball away for a corner (3.).

Borussia traveled to St.Gallen without Bürki, Rode und Guerrero (all of them not ready to play yet) and started with a 4-3-3 formation against last season's Europa League quarter finalist, with Kagawa and Götze in offensive midfield. Pulisic, Aubameyang and Schürrle made up the attacking trio. Pulisic missed the second good BVB chance with a shot from the rebound; before that Götze's shot was blocked after being set up by Aubameyang (18.).

Borrusia did not play as a compact unit in the first half. Even though Susaetas 0-1 in the 20.minute was debatable, because Weigl had been fouled before his goal, it was not the first or the last time that the Spaniards had more players in the penalty area than BVB and were able to get a shot in unmarked. Just five minutes later Weidenfeller prevented Aduriz from scoring and to make it 0-2.

After the intensive, long training sessions - they also had a 90 minute training session in the morning - it was obvious that the players weren't fresh. It was a dogged match. Schürrle's long distance shot that Iraizoz managed to turn over for a corner was the first highlight after quite a long spell (38.). There were two more huge chances before the halftime break: first of all Aubameyang could not beat the goalkeeper with a penalty after a handball (42.), then Pulisic hit the inside of the post with the next attack, however the ball bounced back onto the pitch (43.).

BVB had a completely new tactical line up apart from Weidenfeller, Burnic and Kagawa for the second half. They lined up with a straight back four, where Merino would move forward when BVB won possession and they would go into attack with a 3-2-4-1 basic formation. However compared to the first 45 minutes, the Black Yellows could not create any worthwhile chances on goal. On the other side Weidenfeller prevented Etxebarria from scoring to make it 0-2 (53.).

BVB 1. half: Weidenfeller – Piszczek, Sokratis, Burnic, Schmelzer – Weigl – Kagawa, Götze – Pulisic, Aubameyang, Schürrle

BVB 2. half: Weidenfeller – Passlack, Bartra, Burnic – Sahin, Merino – Mor, Castro, Kagawa (68. Park), Dembélé – Ramos
