The German men's Olympic football squad is through to the final! The team, with Dortmund players Sven Bender and Matthias Ginter at its core, negotiated its way past Nigeria in the semis, defeating them 2-0 (1-0).

Those chosen to represent Germany in the semi-final bossed proceedings for 70 minutes. Sven Bender played superbly between the defensive and midfield lines, while Matthias Ginter was a rock at centre-half. His finest moment of the game came just before half-time, as he nullified the Nigerians' single best chance on goal during the entire 90 minutes.

Energy levels began to lull a little as the game entered into the final 20 minutes, but Nils Petersen, who had been substituted on, made sure of their place in the final by finding the back of the net to take the score to 2-0 (89'). Fullback Lukas Klostermann had given the German team a 1-0 lead earlier on (9').

The German team will play against Brazil in the final this Saturday at 22:30 CEST in Rio de Janeiro. (br)
