Thomas Tuchel could hardly have imagined a better coaching debut in the UEFA Champions League. "It couldn't have gone any better," he said in a ZDF interview after the 6-0 triumph away to Legia Warsaw. The BVB coach spoke about...

...BVB's successful start to their UEFA Champions League campaign: "A big, big compliment to the team. We played with a lot of belief and a lot of courage, but we also produced an energetic performance. I am delighted that we had such a presence about us and that we were able to pick up such a result. Overall, we started in a focused and dominant manner with a high tempo. In the first half an hour we put in a very good performance."

...his debut as a coach in Europe's elite club competition: "My debut couldn't have gone any better. If we'd been granted a wish, we probably wouldn't have dared to wish for a start like this."

...how the difference compared with the defeat in Leipzig: "What made us stand out was our desire to play the balls in up top, not waiting but playing the balls in with the necessary sharpness. As for the fact that we set a record with 30 shots on goal, okay. It shows that we were hungry. You could see we were enjoying ourselves out there. We never let up. I'm very happy about that."

...goalscorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: "It would've been a shame if he hadn't got on the scoresheet. 'Auba' had originally missed two big chances. We had considered taking him off, but he hadn't got a goal yet. For that reason we left him on the pitch. He thrives on goals, so thankfully he managed to get one tonight."

...a possible fly in the ointment: "Today there is no fly in the ointment. There was a period six or seven minutes before the interval in which we gave away three shots on goal. That wasn't necessary. If we have the required speed in our game and keep the pace up, then we're fine. As soon as we start to think that it's okay to play more slowly, even just to recover a bit, then errors creep in and a few shots from the opposition too. But overall, there is no fly in the ointment. On the contrary, I'd like to pay a big compliment to the team."

...the situation in Group F: "We've stolen a march, we probably won't lose our head-to-head with Legia now. Against Real we want to keep up the good work. It terms of atmosphere, it will certainly be a special game. It is a great honour to stand on the sideline." (fu)
