The German national team will kick off the upcoming calendar year with a friendly against England at Signal Iduna Park on 22 March 2017 (20:45 CET). After the 'Klassiker' national team coach Joachim Löw and his charges will head to Baku, where they face Azerbaijan four days later on 26 March, as they continue their qualifying campaign for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

"We're delighted that such a tradition-steeped fixture is being played in such an historic location," said BVB's Chief Executive Officer, Hans-Joachim Watzke, following the decision by German Football Association's (DFB) executive committee.

DFB President Reinhard Grindel said: "The fans can look forward to the 2017 international calendar kicking off with a tradition-steeped and illustrious fixture. Dortmund's excellent atmosphere makes it the ideal location to host the match against England. In addition, fans can take the opportunity to discover the great history of this fixture by visiting the Wembley exhibition at the German Football Museum in Dortmund."

Team coordinator Oliver Bierhoff added: "Matches against England are always a special occasion. Such fixtures naturally reawaken memories in the fans and generate a great deal of anticipation."
