BVB, who fielded their third-youngest team of all time, showed a considerable improvement after the interval, last season's vice-champions having 13 shots on the Hertha goal in the second half compared to just two in the opening 45 minutes. Mor's red card was the club's first in 93 Bundesliga matches.

A BVB player was sent off for the first time in almost three years.

Record set with draw: Despite dropping points at home for the first time this season, BVB set a new club record by extending their unbeaten run at Signal Iduna Park to 25 games.

Friday evening: Borussia have not lost any of their last 23 home games on a Friday evening (16 wins and seven draws). The last home defeat on a Friday evening came against Schalke in January 2004.

Youthful: BVB fielded by far the youngest starting XI in the Bundesliga this season (average age: 22.9). At 28, captain Marcel Schmelzer was the veteran in the starting line-up. It was only the third time in Bundesliga history that Borussia have started with a team with an average age of under 23. Previously, this had only happened in two matches in 2010/11. Four of the players that started against Hertha were still under 21 years of age: Merino (20), Mor (19), Passlack and Pulisic (both 18).

Dismissals: It was the first time this season that both teams have had a player sent off in a match. There had not been a dismissal between Hertha and Borussia since Pal Dardai was given his marching orders on 14 April 2001 – 26 matches ago. Today both Emre Mor and Valentin Stocker saw red.

BVB reduced to ten men: Having not had a player sent off in their last 93 matches, BVB were reduced to ten men today when Emre Mor saw red. The last BVB player to be dismissed was Sokratis on 7 December 2013, making Mor's the first red card of the Thomas Tuchel era.

On target: It's the mark of a top striker: despite missing two top chances, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang refused to let his head drop and eventually found the target with his sixth goal of the season. The Borussia forward is now above all others in the goal-scoring charts. The penalty miss was only the second time he has failed from the spot in the top flight, the first coming against Frankfurt in December 2015.

Vulnerable late on: BVB have conceded seven goals so far this season, with six of them coming in the second half.

Landmark reached: Joo-Ho Park featured in the Bundesliga for the first time since January, making his 50th appearance in the top flight.

Rotation: There were five changes to the starting XI that was beaten by Leverkusen, four of which were enforced by injury: Piszczek, Castro, Guerreiro and Sokratis. (br)
