Everyone in Germany is looking to Dortmund and they are asking themselves: will Borussia make the race for the title exciting again? BVB manages to move to within just two points to league leaders FC Bayern when they come face to face. However the top match ends 0-0 - it is the only match in March that the Black Yellows don't win.

In the fourth week in a row where Borussia Dortmund has to play three games a week, BVB has to first of all play away to Darmstadt 98. Thomas Tuchel gives eight players a breather. Felix Passlack marks his debut at the age of 17 years and 278 days - this makes him the 9.youngest player ever to play for Borussia Dortmund. BVB fulfill their must win task in masterful style. And as an extra bonus: because league leaders Bayern Munich surprisingly lose to Mainz the Black Yellows manage to cut their points tally behind Bayern to five points by winning 2-0 at the Böllenfalltor. Adrian Romas scores to make it 1-0 in the 38.minute, Erik Durm makes it 2-0 after 53 minutes.

Everyone in Germany is talking about the approaching top of the table clash. Thomas Tuchel says: "now we have a situation that is much better and that we have worked hard for. Of course we will do everything to cut the gap by even more." He has everyone available in training apart from the injured Sokratis.

Even though Borussia Dortmund can't get the three points as they had hoped for, they still get a respectable 0-0 draw against FC Bayern. This is a respectable result because both teams really give it their all in front of 81359 spectators in the sold out SIGNAL IDUNA PARK. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (11.) and Erik Durm (20. photo) both miss chances in the first half to give BVB the lead, Douglas Costa (28.) and Arjen Robben (42.) miss chances for FCB. Bayern take more control of the match in the second half. Bürki manages to turn away a volley by Vidal onto the cross-bar with an great reflex save. The Swiss player said after the game: "I am happy that we managed to not concede a goal against Bayern.". The Black Yellows rely on the counter attack and have chances through Aubameyang (51.) and Ramos (88.).

The 2-0 home win over Mainz 05 through goals byMarco Reus and Shinji Kagawa is overshadowed by two tragic incidents in the south-west corner of the stadium, where a 79 year old BVB fan dies due to a heart attack and another fan manages to be resussitated. Both sets of fans follow the match in respectful silence once it is known what has happened and in the last minutes they start to sing the football hymn "You'll  never walk alone". Dr. Reinhard Rauball's words about how this reaction shows "how deeply rooted the terms honour and respect for other people are" summarises everything that happened on that day.

3-0 against Tottenham Hotspur. In the clash of the two second placed teams from Germany and England, Borussia Dortmund really sets the mark in the last 16 1st leg of the UEFA Europa League! Spiegel Online adds the headline "As close to perfection as you can get" to their match report. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Marco Reus get a goal each within 9 minutes and everyone is celebrating in the sold out Signal Iduna Park. BVB wins the 2nd leg 2-1, which also marks the first win of any German team in any competition at White Hart Lane - Aubameyang scores both goals. Borussia qualifies for  the quarter finals of a European Cup competition for the 13.time.

Borussia Dortmund also remains unbeaten in their 15.competitive match of 2016. They celebrate a 3-1 win away to FC Augsburg, which marks their 13.win and this means they have already made sure they will be in the top four in the league by match day 27. However, the great burden of playing so many matches in the last weeks is becoming ever more evident. Even though the possession stats look like they could set a new record, they lack ideas in the last third of the pitch for 40 minutes. On the other side Augsburg plays well tactically and they take the lead through Finnbogason (16.), but  Mkhitaryan manages to get the equaliser just seconds before half time. After the break BVB finally gets the better of their opponent: Gonzalo Castro scores to make it 2-1 (69.), Adrian Ramos makes sure that BVB walk away with a well deserved victory (75.). Boris Rupert
