The Signal Iduna Park shakes in its own foundations after substitute André Schürrle, who returned after being out through injury, scores the 2-2 equaliser against Real Madrid at exactly 22:29hrs on the evening of the 27.September. Borussia Dortmund deservedly snatch a point against the "biggest name in football" (Tuchel).

And this means BVB celebrate a great start to their Champions League campaign. Because two weeks prior to this game they manage to achieve the highest win ever in this competition by beating Legia Warsaw 6-0 away from home. They took the lead 3-0 after just fifteen minutes through goals by Mario Götze (7.), Sokratis (15.) and Marc Bartra (17.). Just after half-time Raphael Guerreiro scores, Gonzalo Castro makes it 5-0 exactly 30 seconds after coming on as a substitute, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang completes the half dozen just before the final whistle.

In the home fixture against Real Madrid Christiano Ronaldo first of all puts Real Madrid 1-0 up with a header in the 17.minute totally against the run of play, Aubameyang manages to get the equaliser in the first half after a Guerreiro free-kick to make it 1-1 (43.). In the second half Ousmane Dembélé and Aubameyang (51.) miss real sitters that would have made it 2-1, however it is the Spaniards who get the next goal: Benzema hits the post, Varane puts the rebound over the line (68.). Christian Pulisic (83.) and Emre Mor (84.) can't beat Real goalkeeper Navas, but then Schürrle comes on and whacks the ball into the net to make it 2-2 in the 87.minute.

Things aren't going quite to plan in the league: BVB suffer a completely unnecessary defeat away to Rasenballsport Leipzig, who score the winning goal just before the final whistle to mark a 1-0 victory. After Schürrle hits the cross bar (83.), Keita scores at the other end in the 89.minute. One week later 81360 spectators celebrate a great BVB win, when they trounce Darmstadt 98 6-0 through goals by Gonzalo Castro (2), Adrian Ramos, Christian Pulisic, Sebastian Rode and Emre Mor. Then there is a spectacle with lots of chances on goal on both (!) sides and fantastic reflex saves by Roman Bürki in the Wolfsburg Arena. The 5-1 BVB win (goals: Guerreiro, Aubameyang, Dembélé, Aubameyang again and finally Piszczek) does not quite reflect the run of play; however it is a well deserved victory.

Mario Götze celebrates his comeback in the Signal Iduna Park for the first time in 1248 days after he last made an appearance in the Black Yellow jersey. The returning hero is in the starting line-up in the 3-1 win over Sportclub Freiburg. Goals by Aubameyang, Piszczek and Guerreiro secure a third win in a row and it means BVB move to second place in the league table. All in all this means BVB have won four games, drawn one and lost one game in the Bundesliga and Champions League during the month of September, 2016 - quite a good achievement.

Champion Head Coach Hannes Wolf to VfB

Hannes Wolf takes over as the new Head Coach at VfB Stuttgart. Sporting Director Michael Zorc explained: "he did some excellent work at BVB and has developed a lot of talented players. He deserves a big thank you! We could not and did not want to get in his way for this huge chance in his career." Wolf, who had been with Borussia Dortmund since 2009, won the German Championship with the U17 team in 2014 and 2015 and also won the U19 national title with the same year group in 2016. The departing coach said: "it was an unbelievable journey with fantastic people and players, without whom it would not have been possible to take this step now. I thank Borussia Dortmund with all my heart for seven fantastic years." Borussia Dortmund wishes him all the best and a lot of success in his new position.

Gonzalo Castro has to continue to wait for a call up to the national team; Julian Weigl and Mario Götze are however in the squad of 22 players for the national team for the two World Cup qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Northern Ireland. Not being selected for the national team is a negative surprise for his Head Coach Thomas Tuchel. "it is a big disappointment to hear that. I would have thought Gonzo would have been called up because he has been playing at a very high level for quite sometime now." Boris Rupert
