Far from it being a 'Golden October', Borussia fails to record a single win out of four Bundesliga games in autumn and drops down the table from 2.place to 6.place. However, in the UEFA Champions League they get an important win away from home - and in the DFB Cup they get through to the last 16.

It is possible to put the defeat in Leverkusen down to exhaustion after a marathon of seven games within 22 days, especially as the squad is down to the bare bones. Even though the Black Yellows control the game, they cannot reep the dividends in goals and they are behind to an early goal (Mehmedi, 10.). Aubameyang's goal is ruled off-side. Chicharito makes sure Leverkusen win the three points after a quick counter attack to make the score 2-0 (79.).

BVB draw Hertha BSC 1-1 in a turbulent game after the international break, however they make sure they keep their home record: 25 league games in the Signal Iduna Park without defeat - a club record! Valentin Stocker gives the guests the lead (51.). Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gets the equaliser in the 80.minute, after he had missed a penalty and two huge chances prior to his equaliser. Emre Mor (84.) and Valentin Stocker (90.) are shown the red card in the dying minutes of the game. Mikel Merino makes his BVB debut, Marcel Schmelzer joins the long list of injured BVB players: muscle fibre tear in the adductors area.

BVB comes back from two goals down

What a crazy game! After going behind 0-2 and 1-3, BVB mounts a comeback and they manage to secure at least one point away to FC Ingolstadt by getting a 3-3 (0-2) draw. After two set pieces by Markus Suttner, Almog Cohen (6.) and Dario Lezcano (24.) are just in the right spot and put the hosts 2-0 in front. After the break it goes crazy: first of all Aubameyang makes it 1-2 (59.), Leczano (60.) scores to restore FCI's two goal lead in their next attack. Adrian Ramos (69.) gets another goal back for BVB. In time-added on substitute Christian Pulisic (90.+1) secures BVB one point. BVB were much better in the second half compared to their first half performance. They nearly even won all three points, however Aubameyang's header just misses the top corner of the goal (90.+4).

The 149. local derby ends goalless and without a winner. BVB doesn't really get into the game until the second half, however they just can't score. Mario Götze can't beat Ralf Fährmann after good build up play. Hans-Joachim Watzke praises the spectators: "I would like to thank all the BVB Fans with all my heart, also in the name of the team, for their undying support! Everyone, and especially the fans in the South Stand, have shown a real feeling for how difficult it is for our team at the moment. That was a great Borussia spirit!"

After 97 exciting minutes of a very spirited game, the team celebrates a 2-1 away win at Sporting Lisbon on MD3 in the UEFA Champions League. Aubameyang and Julian Weigl score the goals to give BVB a 2-0 lead by half-time. Sporting get back into the game through an indirect free kick (67.). The lead is melting away - and the players are too: Marc Bartra and Matthias Ginter have to come off due to injury.

Weidenfeller's excellent saves in the penalty shoot-out

Roman Weidenfeller is the big hero on a never ending Cup night. Second placed 2.Bundesliga club Union Berlin take Borussia Dortmund into extra time and to a penalty shoot-out in front of 79037 spectators in the not quite sold out Signal Iduna Park. 18 year old Danish Olympic participant Jacob Bruun Larsen makes it 1-0 just before half-time with the help of ex-Borussia player Michael Parensen. However the Black Yellows are too passive after the break and they suffer the consequences when Steven Skrzybski gets the equaliser in the 81.minute. They then miss several good chances and the game goes to a penalty shoot-out, where Ousmane Denbélé, Matthias Ginter and Mario Götze all score from the spot. Weidenfeller saves Kroos and Fürstner's penalties!

40 million spectaors! After 835 Bundesliga home games they have set a new record: Borussia Dortmund is the first club in the history of the Bundesliga to break this barrier in their home game against Herta BSC. Boris Rupert
