During a meeting of the directors today, senior figures at Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig reviewed the incidents that occurred around the Bundesliga match between the two clubs.

BVB President Dr. Reinhard Rauball and Hans-Joachim Watzke, Chief Executive Officer, apologised to RB Leipzig's C.E.O., Oliver Mintzlaff, and Sporting Director Ralf Rangnick for what happened last Saturday. They emphasised that no sporting and emotional rivalry could justify the verbal abuse or the offensive banners of a personal nature aimed at the Leipzig officials, nor the violent attacks against RBL fans.

Rauball and Watzke assured the RBL leadership that Borussia Dortmund began immediately after the game to investigate exactly what had occurred, and to identify the perpetrators. To that end, BVB is working in close cooperation with the police and the legal authorities. BVB will of course keep RBL completely up to date as the investigation proceeds. Furthermore, there will a comprehensive review of all aspects of crowd safety and security to establish how the situation was able to escalate as it did.

Representatives from both clubs are in complete agreement that a future repetition of such incidents as witnessed on Saturday must be prevented, and that solutions to all such incidents must be found. To that end, relationships at management level must be further built up while communication needs to be intensified, alongside the responsibility already held by each club.

In future, should two parties involved in discussions related to different topics possibly be of different opinions, these will always be met with respect when working together.
