Many of the 3,300 BVB fans in Lisbon missed the kick-off to the UEFA Champions League clash away at Benfica as they were being held up outside the stadium. At the behest of the fan representatives on site, Borussia Dortmund made a request to UEFA for kick-off to be postponed but it was denied.

BVB had been informed well in advance about the strict security checks that would be carried out due to the presence of pyrotechnics at the matches in Porto and away to Sporting. This information was communicated to all BVB supporters via the fan info bulletins and social media.

"In principle, the decision-making power at the stadium lies with the organiser. BVB and we, the fan representatives, did not have any influence on the events taking place," emphasised the Borussia Dortmund fan representatives, whose hands were tied.

We would like to wish all BVB fans a smooth journey home!
