There was satisfaction with the result and respect for the opposition in the Black and Yellow camp as they reflected on the clear but hard-fought victory over Bayer Leverkusen. Here we bring you the match reactions.

Roman Bürki: "We showed aggression going forward, gave the opposition hardly any space, put some superb moves together and created the goals brilliantly. It was excellent how we closed the game off. We never eased off and simply kept playing towards our Wall. It's a part of the BVB family. We boosted self-confidence against a good opponent."

Julian Weigl: "Leverkusen never gave up and made us work hard, pressed as expected and never let us breathe for a minute. We scored the goals at the right time. The game could have turned each time they pulled a goal back, but luckily we responded quickly on both occasions. All in all it was a deserved victory."

Gonzalo Castro: "We have a very good balance to our game. Defensively we work very well, while at the other end we attack with pace. Everything is working really well right now. When we have the ball we're aware of the positions and the passing channels and know where our team-mates are. That makes us unpredictable at the moment; it's difficult for any opponent to face."

"Ultimately it's a question of quality"

Roger Schmidt (Bayer Leverkusen coach): "Congratulations to Thomas Tuchel and BVB. 6-2 is a brutal result, but even though it might sound strange I thought my team performed very well. I can identify well with this performance. Despite what was in the end a very clear result, it was a good step. Ultimately it's a question of quality. BVB simply have top-class talent in their offensive ranks, they're comparable with Real Madrid or Bayern Munich in that respect."

Lars Bender (Bayer Leverkusen captain): "The final margin of defeat was by one or two goals too many. It was the set-pieces that really did us over, but even those can be difficult to deal with when opponents play with the pace BVB do. We simply couldn't defend against it. If the score had been 0-0 for longer, perhaps it would've been slightly easier for us. We didn't actually perform as badly as the result might suggest." (br/djg)
