Borussia Dortmund have reached the UEFA Champions League quarter finals for the third time since 2013 and the sixth in total. Here are the facts on the 4-0 last-16 return-leg victory over Benfica.

Goals tally: In their eighth match of this Champions League campaign, Borussia took their goals tally up to 25 (3.1 goals per match on average). They have never scored more in their 11 previous participations in the competition.

Clear victory: Borussia Dortmund have only once won by a higher margin in the last 16 or a later round of a European competition: on 4 December 1963, when they beat the same opponents 5-0 in the last 16 of the European Cup. There have been three other 4-0 wins – 1964 against Dukla Prague (European Cup quarter final), 2002 against Slovan Liberec (UEFA Cup quarter final) and 2002 against AC Milan (semi-final).

Strong at home: BVB have won nine of their last 12 home games in UEFA club competitions, drawing twice and only losing once.

Shooting boots: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored his fifth, sixth and seventh goals in his seventh match of this European campaign.

First goal: Christian Pulisic, 18, scored his first-ever goal at European level.

100% record: BVB were facing opposition from Portugal in European competition for the sixth time. They have now won all six home games: 1963 and 2017 against Benfica (5-0, 4-0), 1999 and 2001 against Boavista (3-1, 2-1), 2016 against Porto (2-0) and 2016 against Sporting Lisbon (1-0).

Comebacks: Borussia Dortmund have now progressed from nine of 16 European ties in which they lost the first leg away from home. (br)
