Borussia Dortmund II are back in the Regional League title race after bouncing back from a disappointing 1-1 draw in Wiedenbrück a week ago with a victory over Bonner SC on Matchday 24. The Black and Yellows put in a focused performance – particularly in the first 45 minutes – as they ran out 2-0 winners at the Rote Erde Stadion.

Jonas Arweiler (13) and Hamadi Al Ghaddioui got the goals as the hosts picked up their 13th win of the season. "We played against a very good team today. I'm extremely satisfied – particularly with the first 45 minutes," said coach Daniel Farke. "You can see the lads are taking huge steps forward in their personal development."

The win sees Borussia Dortmund (48 points) leapfrog Borussia Mönchengladbach II – who remain on 46 points after losing 3-2 at SG Wattenscheid 09, despite having been two goals ahead – into second place, while Viktoria Köln remain top of the pile on 51 points after securing a 2-1 win at SC Verl.

The 542 spectators at the Rote Erde Stadion saw Borussia dominate Bonn from the outset. Jonas Arweiler played a pivotal role, the left winger first slotting home the opener after being set up by Atakan Karazor (13), then assisting the second for Hamadi Al Ghaddioui (21). The Moroccan (32) and Massih Wassey (45) subsequently missed further opportunities before the interval.

The visitors only threatened on one occasion in the opening 45 minutes, when an underhit pass from shot-stopper Hendrik Bonmann landed at the feet of BSC forward Lucas Musculus. Bonmann, though, was quick to atone for his error and prevented what would have been the equaliser (17).

The hosts continued to boss proceedings after the interval and would have netted a third if Bonn custodian Martin Michel (59) had not saved a long-range effort from Marco Hober (59). The visitors did get more into the game midway through the second half, though, with Musculus first being denied by Bonmann (67) and then firing narrowly wide following a Connor Krempicki free-kick (71). "We had a few problems at that point but still managed to defend well," said Farke, whose side looked relatively comfortable in the final 20 minutes.

The Black and Yellows are next in action on Friday evening (19:30 CET) when they travel away to Wuppertaler SV.
