Borussia Dortmund have followed up their contract renewals with the highly-talented Julian Weigl and Christian Pulisic by tying down another key performer to a long-term deal: midfielder Gonzalo Castro has extended his contract until 30 June 2020.

"I'm really happy about the trust the club has placed in me and I can honestly say that it makes me proud to pull on the Black and Yellow jersey and play football in front of such amazing fans," said the 29-year-old. "Both on a sporting and personal level, Gonzo has become a very important member of the squad in a short space of time," added Sporting Director Michael Zorc.

Gonzalo Castro signed for BVB on 1 July 2015 following 16 successful years – 11 of which were at senior level – at Bayer 04 Leverkusen. This season he has featured in 30 of Borussia's 36 competitive matches.
