Dortmund’s thoughts were with Julian Weigl after the game against Augsburg, who left the medical centre and boarded the flight back home.

Goalkeeper Roman Bürki didn’t want to talk about the game at all, but the extent to which his fellow player’s injury had affected him was especially noticeable – “it’s the biggest disappointment at the moment. I feel really sorry for him. The result is of secondary important”.

Matthias Ginter too wished Julian Weigl a speedy recovery and added – “we still have two important games coming up and really could have done with his services”.

Thomas Tuchel just announced – “we now have to find someone who can do as good a job as Jule can in this position”. It won’t be easy. “He plays every game for us, in the middle of the park – when Julian plays in the middle, the ball shifts from A to B a half to a whole second quicker than it would otherwise” said the Head Coach. This, in turn, allows the creative players in the midfield the time to create goal-scoring chances.

The 21-year-old will be out for several months with a fractured ankle. (br)
