Borussia Dortmund were in every respect the superior team away at VfL Wolfsburg for the first game of the season, creating two thirds of the gameplay and shooting on goal 13 times (Wolfsburg seven). The Black and Yellows played very concentratedly, with a pass completion rate of 86%, while the men from Lower Saxony only got the ball to their man 65% of the time.

Opening win: For the sixth time in the last seven years, Borussia Dortmund begin the Bundesliga season with a victory.

Run: Since the defeat in the DFB Cup Final 2015, BVB have won all five of their games against Wolfsburg, and with a goal difference of 18:3.

Early starter: Christian Pulisic had already got Borussia's first competitive goal of the season in the Supercup against the Bavarians, and now he has got the first league goal of the season for BVB.

Right there: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored for the fourth time in the opening game of the season in his fifth Bundesliga campaign (he only failed to do so in 2014/15). After his goal in the Supercup and his hat-trick in the Cup, Aubameyang also scored in the third competitive fixture of the season, and with that has already chalked up five goals.

Back again: 202 Days after his last competitive match for BVB (on 29. January away at Mainz), Mario Götze celebrated his comeback and was involved in the first two goals, setting up the first, and playing the penultimate pass for the second.

Goal-getter: Marc Bartra scored his first Bundesliga goal, after he had already scored the previous week in the Cup against Rielasingen. Consequently, he has now scored in every competition for BVB: last year he found the back of the net in the UEFA Champions League away in Warsaw. (br)
