Borussia Dortmund put in a committed display against Real Madrid but the players all agreed that they ultimately deserved to lose. "We didn't perform in such a way that we should've won the game," Nuri Sahin said.

Peter Bosz: "We played against a very good team tonight and we weren't on their level. If the strikers and midfielders cannot apply pressure properly, then it becomes difficult for the defence."

Mario Götze: "Real got the goals – and we didn't. We weren't able to use our possession of the ball in the way we wanted and we weren't able to put pressure on the ball in the decisive moments. Madrid were very dangerous and were merciless going forward."

Gonzalo Castro: "Real were more clinical and took their chances. We battled back well at the beginning of the second half and had a huge chance to equalise at 1-1. Then they went straight down the other end and scored. We tried to launch a fightback but it wasn't to be. We left too many gaps. We need to learn from such games."

Nuri Sahin: "It was a deserved victory for Real Madrid. They were more alert, fresher and had a lot more touches of the ball. If you don't get that little bit of luck you need, it becomes difficult. We didn't perform in such a way that we should've won this game."
