Borussia Dortmund's U23s moved up to fourth place in the Regionalliga table after bringing their run of four games without a win to an end with a 4-0 (1-0) victory at SC Wiedenbrück.

Strikes from Mainka (43) and Serra (52) plus a Twyrdy own goal (54) set the Black and Yellows on the path to victory at SC Wiedenbrück, with Steuer adding the fourth in the 75th minute. BVB now have 21 points from 11 games and remain firmly in the race, with just five points separating them from league leaders Uerdingen, who have played two games more.

The first 45 minutes were very open with Wiedenbrück making the better start and creating the first chance after around 10 minutes, though Maier's effort from a cross was well off target. The BVB youngsters frequently switched positions, especially in the wing forward positions. Even Janni Serra, who has just returned from international duty, drifted out to the flanks on several occasions. The first clear opportunity for BVB fell to Sören Dieckmann, who found himself in an unmarked position in front of goal before sending a lob sailing over the crossbar, but a free-kick from Ornatelli and a header from Mainka eventually broke the deadlock for the visitors with two minutes remaining of the first half.

Borussia Dortmund were firmly in the ascendancy after the restart, with Wiedenbrück having little in the way of goalscoring opportunities and mostly chasing the game. The second goal came in the 52nd minute when Serra was allowed space to finish following a brilliant run, before a third goal all but killed the game two minutes later, with a Wiedenbrück defender heading Pflücke's cross past his own keeper to make it 3-0. The sense of relief was palpable, both on the pitch and in the stands.

The visitors added the fourth and final goal from another set-piece 15 minutes from time, when Oliver Steurer outjumped his marker to head home Massimo Ornatelli's corner. BVB will now head into their clash with Fortuna Düsseldorf II on Tuesday in buoyant mood. Jan Siewert was a very relieved man after the match, and was very satisfied with his team's performance: "The lads absolutely deserved the victory today. We worked on our finishing in training this week and today we played with more certainty, which really helped us."
