In what was a frenetic and highly eventful match with five goals, many chances, two penalties and two sending-offs, Leipzig inflicted a first Bundesliga defeat of the 2017/18 season on BVB and Peter Bosz.

Home defeat: Borussia Dortmund's historic 41-match unbeaten run at Signal Iduna Park finally ended as they were beaten 3-2 at home by Rasenballsport Leipzig, though the Black & Yellows remain top of the table.

Danger man: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored his 94th and 95th Bundesliga goals, the first of which was his earliest ever (fourth minute). He has scored 15 goals – ten of which have come in the league – in 12 competitive matches this season. The only Bundesliga players in the last 30 years to have reached double figures after eight rounds of matches were the Gabon forward himself, when he hit ten goals at the start of the 2015/16 campaign, and Robert Lewandowski (12). It is the 22nd occasion Aubameyang has scored more than one goal in a Bundesliga match.

Marching orders: It was the first time in the 2017/18 season that two players have been sent off in one game, both for professional fouls (Sokratis and Ilsanker). Marco Reus was the last Borussia Dortmund player to receive a red card in the Bundesliga, back in December 2016. Until Sokratis was dismissed today, BVB had only amassed two yellow cards this season.

Goals conceded: Borussia Dortmund conceded more goals in 90 minutes against RB Leipzig (three) than they did in their previous seven games (two). Until Sabitzer scored from Kampl's free-kick to make it 1-1, BVB were the only team in the division yet to concede a goal from a set-piece.

Early starters: No team has scored more goals in the first 15 minutes of matches this season than Borussia Dortmund (four).

Lead squandered: The last time the Black & Yellows lost a competitive game after scoring the opener was against Liverpool in the UEFA Europa League in April 2016. It was their first Bundesliga defeat after breaking the deadlock since they were beaten in Cologne in December 2015. (br)
