There was considerable disappointment in the BVB camp following the defeat in Hanover. "Firstly we need to conduct our analysis, there are several things to discuss," said captain Marcel Schmelzer to sky. "If we don't apply enough pressure, then it's too easy for the opposition," Peter Bosz explained. Here we bring you the match reactions.

Peter Bosz: "The problem was that Hannover attacked very early. They defended man for man all over the pitch and we weren't able to play our game. Hannover kept trying to get the ball in behind our defence and we did not react properly. That has nothing to do with us defending with a high line. We didn't do that at all today; it was Hannover who were defending high up the pitch. We didn't make use of the space going forward, because Hannover were much more aggressive. If we don't apply enough pressure, it's too easy for the opposition. Plainly and simply, we weren't aggressive enough."

Marcel Schmelzer: "It's difficult to say why we lost. Firstly we need to conduct our analysis, there are several things we need to discuss. Hannover looked to play the ball in behind our defence immediately almost every time they gained possession and we kept getting caught out. I can say that right now, immediately after the match. But we will need to think about everything else internally. Today was a real setback, previously there were other circumstances."

"Tactics were key"

Horst Heldt (Sporting Director at Hannover 96): "Such matches and moments are why we got promoted. We worked hard in the second division to get here. It [today] was a real fight and I think that we deserved to win. The tactical approach, which the team executed very well, was the key." (djg)
