Borussia Dortmund dominated the first period, having nine shots to Stuttgart's one, but VfB had the better of the shots (8-3) and dangerous counters after the break as they sealed all three points.

Regular on the scoresheet: Maximilian Philipp scored his sixth goal of the campaign, surpassing his previous best for a half-season in the Bundesliga.

Back in action: Andre Schürrle lined up in the Borussia Dortmund starting XI for the first time in eight months and was involved in eight of Dortmund's 12 shots (taking four himself and setting up another four). He did however miss his third Bundesliga penalty. He has previously scored four times from the spot.

Together again: World Cup heroes Götze and Schürrle lined up alongside each other in the starting XI for the first time in almost a year, the last joint appearance having come on Matchday 12 of last season as BVB were beaten 2-1 in Frankfurt on 26 November 2016.

First spot-kick save: Ron-Robert Zieler saved his first Bundesliga penalty at the 23rd attempt (one previously hit the post). The negative record for keepers, held by Roleder and Immel, is 22 consecutive penalties conceded.

Strong on home turf: VfB Stuttgart remain unbeaten at home in 2017. There have been 12 wins and three draws. It is the Swabians' longest home run since the 2006/07 title-winning season over ten years ago.
