Borussia Dortmund's U19s have missed a major opportunity to qualify directly for the last 16 of the UEFA Youth League. Having been deservedly beaten 3-1 by Tottenham Hotspur on Matchday 5, BVB will need a minimum of one point from their final group game against Real Madrid if they are at least to make the play-offs.

The match, played at the Youth Performance Centre is Brackel, was already over by half-time after Shashoua (8) and Brown (18) fired the visitors into an early lead. Emre Aydinel pulled one back with BVB's first shot of the match thanks to a helping hand from Tottenham shot-stopper Austin (30), but Sterling soon re-established the two-goal cushion (44). That goal came after the outstanding Edwards had been denied from the spot by Luca Unbehaun, Dortmund's standout performer, 11 minutes earlier.

It was unfortunate for coach Benjamin Hoffmann's team that Jakob Bruun Larsen, who had been borrowed from the first team, had been forced off with injury in the 16th minute and Spurs had had the superiority in numbers that allowed them to double their lead. "You have to concede that Tottenham were clearly the better team," admitted Edwin Boekamp, who heads up the BVB youth setup. (wiwi)
