"With a bit of luck we could have turned the game around at the end", said Peter Stöger after the match in Munich, but added to that: "Over the full 90 minutes, the Bavarians were the better team." Marcel Schmelzer and Roman Bürki also voiced their opinions on the game to ARD.

Peter Stöger: "I am pleased with our determination to get back into the game in the second half, but you can not win Bundesliga games when you play the way we did in the first half, and certainly not cup games when you play away here at Bayern. Our passing game was poor, we failed to make any tackles, and we were lacking courage. We were simply happy that they hadn't scored more than two goals by the end of the first half. We spoke candidly in the dressing room during the break, and after switching ends we did a few things better. Our body language was improved in the second half, and I had the feeling that we were prepared to tackle the situation, to face up to it, even though it was difficult. With a bit of luck we could have turned the game around at the end, but you have simply got to say that over the full 90 minutes the Bavarians were the better team."

Roman Bürki: "We woke up a bit too late. There was nothing good about the first half, we didn't show anything of worth. The manager made that clear to us during the break. We wanted then to get ourselves back into the game, to win the second half. And that is what we did, but it was not enough overall. With a bit of luck we would have got an equaliser at the end."

"We produced a reaction after the break"

Marcel Schmelzer: "We were lucky that the score only stood at 2-0 at the end of the first half. In the last game of the year, in a cup match against Bayern, you can not avoid going into challenges like that. But after the break, we produced a reaction, played better and, with a bit of luck, could have got an equaliser to force the game to extra time. Unfortunately it didn't work out that way, and so we're out of the tournament, and that is aggravating."  (djg)
