Historically, BVB have enjoyed facing VfL Wolfsburg. They have always been goal-laden encounters too, with an average of more than four per game when the two teams have squared off in recent years. Here we bring you the most important information on Sunday's Bundesliga restart (kick-off 18:00 CET), delivered in the usual compact format.

VfL will be without Jakub Blaszczykowski.

Scenario: Nine points and nine places separate third-placed BVB and 12th-placed VfL. Since losing the 2015 DFB Cup final, BVB have claimed victory in all five of their matches against Wolfsburg, with the last four all won by a margin of at least three goals.

Home/away: Borussia Dortmund could become the fifth team to surpass the mark of 500 home wins. Bayern Munich have the most (664), followed by Bremen (516), Hamburg (501) and Stuttgart (500). Wolfsburg are without a win in seven away matches, with the last coming on 26 August 2017 when they beat Frankfurt 1-0. It is their longest winless run on the road for over five years. However, they have only lost three of their eight away games this season, drawing the other four.

Personnel matters: The Wolves will be without Blaszczykowski and Camacho, while Brooks had to withdraw from training on Wednesday. Peter Stöger will speak about BVB's personnel situation at a press conference at 10:30 CET on Friday. Schmelzer, Guerreiro, Reus, Philipp and Rode are all expected to be unavailable.

Head-to-head: Historically, VfL Wolfsburg have only lost more games and conceded more goals to Bayern Munich (31 and 98 respectively) than they have to Borussia Dortmund (23 and 87 respectively), who have the best record of any club against Wolfsburg after being a goal down (three draws, four wins). Borussia have always found the net at least once in their last 17 Bundesliga meetings with Wolfsburg, scoring 46 goals during that period. BVB have lost only one of their last nine home games against VfL, who have only ever kept one clean sheet at the Strobelallee (0-0 on 30 November 2008). Only in Dortmund and Frankfurt have the Wolves conceded five penalties.

Statistics: Borussia Dortmund have only lost one of their last five league games (a 2-1 defeat by Bremen on Matchday 15). Only Bayern (+26) have a better goal difference than the Black & Yellows (+15). BVB games have been the highest-scoring in the division this season, producing a total of 63 goals. Wolfsburg have come from behind to take points in five matches (league record) and have drawn more than half of their games (10 out of 17), but have only won one of their last five matches (a 3-0 win over Gladbach on 3 December 2017).

Shinjia Kagawa celebrates scoring the opener against the Wolves.

Biggest home win: BVB have beaten VfL by four goals in four home games, most recently in a 5-1 victory on 30 April 2016. Goals from Kagawa (7), Ramos (9) and Reus (59), plus an Aubameyang brace in the space of a minute (77, 78), made it 5-0, before Schürrle (86) pulled one back for Wolfsburg.

Attendance: The visitors will bring a contingent of 1,200 travelling fans. 500 standing tickets have been returned by Wolfsburg; they are for Block 55 (North/East corner) and are available via the BVB Ticket Shop. Other tickets are still available in the North and East stands.

Referee: The DFB will announce the appointment late on Thursday afternoon.
