Roman Bürki made several spectacular saves to stop Wolfsburg from scoring on Sunday. "If we'd shown total desire when we had our big chances, we would've won this game," he said to BVBtotal!. The shot-stopper also spoke about his own performance, going into more detail about one of the saves he made, and explained why Erik Durm suddenly hurried over to him from the bench in the second half.

Roman, strange game against Wolfsburg. The opposition didn't get close to your goal often, but when they did it was really dangerous. What's your take?
"It was actually rather strange. We felt we had the game under control, but then there were individual moments where we didn't. If we'd been a little more consistent and focused going forward, and shown total desire when we had our big chances, then we would've won this match. Unfortunately that wasn't the case, but we'll have other chances soon."

You made some sensational saves. The block with an outstretched leg in the first half, for example, or when your made that fingertip stop shortly before the final whistle. What goes through your mind in such moments?
"Regarding the shot shortly before the final whistle, I was fortunate that I still had a bit of time to take a step and then to extend myself as far as I possibly could. As for the block with the outstretched leg, that was pure instinct. Nothing really goes through your mind in such situations. You come out and don't really see the ball properly, but you know roughly where it's going. As a goalkeeper you learn that, but there's obviously a bit of luck to it too."

"I felt it a bit in the calves"

Regarding the long ball shortly before the end, do you notice while it's still in the air whether you're going to get there or not?
"There are some balls where you know whether you'll definitely get there. But the most important thing for me is to go towards the ball in any case. Even if you know that you're not going to get there on time. It's happened to every goalkeeper that he thinks he won't get there but somehow still manages to get some sort of contact on the ball. That's exactly what I did today and fortunately I managed to touch the ball with my fingertips."

There was one point where we were a little bit concerned. During the second period Erik Durm came over to you and gave you a few things. What was going on there?
"I was ill during the training camp. I was actually only able to participate in two team training sessions and missed the friendlies. I felt it a little bit in my calves today and towards the end when I was taking goal-kicks I lacked a bit of power. Erik brought me some magnesium and a bit of sugar so that it would improve quickly." (djg)
