Borussia Dortmund defender Marc Bartra will make an immediate transfer to Spanish top-flight outfit Real Betis. BVB made a significant concession in the transfer negotiations with La Liga's 13th-placed side.

The 27-year-old Spain international, who has 13 caps, moved to Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2016 and made 49 competitive appearances in all competitions for the Black & Yellows, scoring five goals.

"I can hardly find the words to sum up the moments and feelings I've experienced in the last year and a half," said Bartra as he bade a highly emotional farewell to Dortmund on Tuesday afternoon. "I would never have thought it possible to receive so much love and support from one of the best football families in the world. You're role models for everyone! I gave everything at every moment. We managed to achieve a situation where we could win a trophy for the first time in several years and celebrate the triumph together. I will never forget that moment or any other."

With Marc Bartra in the team, Borussia Dortmund beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 in May 2017 to win the DFB Cup. The Spaniard had only made his comeback several days earlier after sustaining serious injuries to his arm and hand, which required an operation, as a result of the bomb attack on the BVB team bus that took place on 11 April 2017. Ahead of his departure, Marc Bartra gave the wrist strap he wore to protect his injured arm in the DFB Cup final to the "Borosseum", the Borussia Dortmund club museum.

"Marc Bartra is a wonderful person and a great footballer, who immediately won the hearts of everyone at BVB," declared BVB boss Hans-Joachim Watzke. "Unfortunately, unbelievably terrible things have happened to him in Dortmund due to the cowardly attack. With this in mind, we respect Marc's desire to return to his homeland and start afresh. Because we feel committed to Marc in a special way, we have made a significant concession in the transfer negotiations. Borussia Dortmund wish Marc Bartra and his family all the best for the future. We will always have a connection to each other!"
