It might have been a close affair in Müngersdorf but BVB were marginally superior, scoring more goals (3-2), registering more shots (17-16), winning more challenges (55 percent), having more possession (51 percent) and covering more ground (120.84km versus 120.24km).

Intense: BVB had more shots in the opening 45 minutes (9-3), although it was Köln who had more attempts after the restart (16-8). That's more shots than the Billy Goats have registered in any other half this season.

Stable: Borussia Dortmund recorded their first victory since the winter break and extended their unbeaten run in the Bundesliga under Peter Stöger to six matches (three wins, three draws). Only Eintracht Frankfurt have suffered fewer away losses (one) than BVB (two).

Head-to-head: BVB never won at Köln in the 1970s and 1980s, suffering defeat on 13 occasions and drawing three times. But there was a reversal in fortunes at the start of the 1990s, since when the Black & Yellows have won more than twice as many games (11) as they have lost (5) in Müngersdorf.

Dream debut: Michy Batshuayi's opening goal on his debut was the 500th of the current season. He later scored another goal and had more shots than any other player (7).

Tough tackler: With a 71 percent tackle win rate, Shinji Kagawa was one of the toughest-tackling players in black & yellow and he set up more chances than any other player (5).

Match-winner: Andre Schürrle netted his first Bundesliga goal in 11 months, having spent a long time out injured. His last goal was at the start of March 2017 in a 6-2 win over Leverkusen. However, he has only played eight times since then. It was Schürrle's third goal in 22 league appearances for BVB. He has set up six goals as well. (br)
