"I don't think the course the game took was at all bad, because the late goal is very good for morale," said BVB coach Peter Stöger following the narrow victory over Atalanta. "But having conceded two goals it's obviously not going to be easy in Italy next week," Mario Götze told sky. Here we bring you the initial match reactions.

Peter Stöger: "The result is obviously not brilliant and doesn't put us in the perfect position for the return leg. But we know it's not easy to beat us. I don't actually think the course the game took was bad at all, because the late goal is very good for morale."

Julian Weigl: "We got into the game and were extremely dangerous with our switch-play. We scored the opener, went in at half-time and had very high hopes. But so did Atalanta and they made the better start to the second half. We stopped playing football, were no longer as courageous as we had been in the first half. Then they scored two goals from two chances – very annoying! But our reaction was exactly the right one. We started to play well again, showed more courage and the fans were right behind us. In the end we deserved to get the equaliser and then Michy gave us the reward for our patience in stoppage time."

Gonzalo Castro: "Both in the first half and in the second half after going 2-1 down, we tried to find solutions. And for the most part we managed that very well. It was, in any case, a bit better than the last few games, which we're very happy about. But it's also our own fault that we let the game become so tense again in the second period. However, all said and done, I think the result is quite good for us."

"Looking at the balance of play, we have to be satisfied"

Mario Götze: "Looking at the balance of play, we have to be satisfied. We're obviously happy to take the win. In stoppage time I could see Michy Batshuayi unmarked in the penalty area and played it straight to him. And then he did brilliantly, turning like lightning and finishing. But having conceded two goals it obviously won't be easy in Italy next week."

André Schürrle: "We knew that it would be hard and were prepared for the Italians to be very robust. We dealt with that well, but we still conceded two unnecessary goals. However, this victory obviously gives us a lot of confidence, even though it's not going to be easy next week." (djg)
