He came off the bench against Leipzig and Salzburg, while in the home match against Frankfurt, Maximilian Philipp made his first start since 2 December 2017, when he seriously injured his knee. He injected much impetus into the game  – but ultimately had to "bite".

"A long period of suffering is over for me. I was out of action for exactly three months. You could see that I was on my last legs. The first 45 minutes were really quite exhausting. It was an intensive game. It was clear that I would not be able to play the full 90 minutes because I am still lacking match fitness. I need to get back up to speed over the next few weeks by getting game time under my belt", clarified the 24 year old to BVB total! after the match, and added: "Frankfurt were really strong in the second half. We conceded what seemed to be a killer blow in the 90' minute, and everybody thought: it is all over. And then we went and scored to make it 3-2 in the dying seconds. We were so happy, even though the victory was lucky." (br)
