Both the coach Peter Stöger and players Marco Reus and Julian Weigl were satisfied with BVB's performance in Bremen but frustrated by the number of chances spurned. Nonetheless, they all lauded Jiri Pavlenka, the opposition goalkeeper. "We were denied by Jiri Pavlenka, he put in a huge performance," said Julian Weigl in an interview with Sky.

Peter Stöger: "We saw our attacks through the way we wanted, but the opposition goalkeeper simply had a really good day. That's how you arrive at a result like this. The match itself was really good, I'm very satisfied with the performance we delivered. If you consider how strong Bremen are at home and how we performed, then it was really good. Nonetheless, we're naturally frustrated by the result. We still need a victory to ensure Champions League qualification. We'll get it."

Julian Weigl: "We were denied by Jiri Pavlenka, he put in a huge performance. We created a lot of clear chances for ourselves but were largely denied by him. That's frustrating for us, but that said it was more difficult than it was for us against Leverkusen last week. Bremen had a clear plan, but we still delivered a good performance, looked strong in possession and created a lot of chances for ourselves. That should give us self-confidence for the final two matches. What Werder do well is they always stay on their feet in the tackles. We never had any time or comfort on the ball. In the end they were slightly lacking energy, but we simply couldn't manage to score the second goal. Nonetheless, we have put ourselves in a good position ahead of the final two matches of the season and now need to get ourselves over the finish line."

Marco Reus: "Pavlenka's saves were world-class. Of course, we should've done better in some situations but Pavlenka simply deserves a lot of respect. In the second half we had enough chances to win the game but unfortunately it wasn't enough. It was clear we wouldn't be able to play here in Bremen as we did against Leverkusen, but we still wanted to continue where we left off last week. You could see why Bremen are still unbeaten at home under their new coach. Our performance was decent, we need to build on that and seal our Champions League spot against Mainz next week."

"A deserved point with some lucky moments"

Florian Kohfeldt (Werder Bremen coach): "There were some spells in which we were slightly lucky of course. On a footballing level, both teams played a good game and in the end Dortmund had the slightly better of the chances. But all in all, I think it was a deserved point for us with some lucky moments of course." (djg)
