With regard to the personnel situation prior to the final matchday, there is a shortage of players for central defence, but a free choice for all other positions. Peter Stöger will have to do without the suspended Sokratis (five yellow cards) and possibly his partner too at the heart of the defence. Ömer Toprak injured his calf during the match against Mainz.

Stöger has not completely ruled out Toprak yet, but it is unlikely that the defender, known for his tackling ability, will be able to participate: "We are not quite sure yet. It is touch and go."

Manuel Akanji will return to central defence from the left-hand side. He might be partnered by Patrick Mainka, who has been promoted from the U23s, but Lukasz Piszczek or Dan-Axel Zagadou are also being considered for the role. The Frenchman has overcome the muscle injury sustained during the match away at Salzburg. "He could also be an option", suggested Stöger, who is also able to include Raphael Guerreiro and Shinji Kagawa as part of his plans for the match in Hoffenheim. The Japanese would be an option for any of the four offensive positions behind or next to the centre forward. Stöger is optimistic in any case: "We have sufficient options in the squad to find solutions and put in a good performance." (br)
