The Borussia Dortmund U23s used a several-week break in their fixture list to reschedule a cancelled friendly at Lüner SV. The traditional pre-season meeting between the teams was initially called off as some of the U23s had joined the senior squad on their USA Tour.

The squad included José Relucio and Giovanni Amoroso, two trial players, and Dario Scuderi, who was making his comeback after a long injury lay-off. However, the likes of Amos Pieper, Massimo Ornatelli and Herbert Bockhorn were all rested and played no part as a result.

The Black & Yellows dominated proceedings at the Kampfbahn Schwansbell − Lüner SV only posed a threat from counters − and broke the deadlock on the 35-minute mark, Giovanni Amoroso receiving a wonderful ball from Philipp Hanke and lobbing the Lüner goalkeeper to hand the visitors a deserved 1-0 lead. Leon Burggraf and Philipp Hanke had chances to extend the advantage in the period that followed, but there were no further goals and the scoreline remained 1-0 at the break.

The match lost some of its momentum in the second period and was disrupted by the amount of substitutions. The hosts restored parity from the penalty spot to make it 1-1 shortly after the interval, and the match ended in a deserved draw. Beyhan Ametov had missed a penalty for the Black & Yellows in the opening half.

Since there will be no normal league fixtures in the coming weeks, the U23s will play a friendly against newly-promoted third-tier side KFC Uerdingen on Friday. That match will see BVB reunited with Patrick Pflücke, who moved to Krefeld during the week.
