''We gladly accept the challenge,'' said Lucien Favre with regards to the draw. Hans-Joachim Watzke spoke of an ''exciting, really evenly matched group overall.'' Here are the reactions of the chairman, the coach and the captain.

Hans-Joachim Watzke (Chairman of the Board of Management): ''It's an exciting, really evenly matched group overall. We aim to be competing in the Champions League after Christmas and we'll go into these games against tough opposition with a lot of optimism.''

Michael Zorc (Director of Football): ''It's a really challenging group. The draw always seems to take us to Madrid, though it makes a change not having to face Real this time. Bruges is a great destination for our fans, and one which is easily reachable. We can't wait to get started in Europe's elite competition!''

Lucien Favre: ''A tough draw with strong opposition, above all Atlético, who are a highly experienced and well organised unit. Then there's Monaco, who knocked Manchester City out the season before last on their way to the semi-finals. Bruges stand out due to their well-drilled performances as a team. Plus everyone who watched the national team at this summer's World Cup will know how strong Belgian football is at the moment. We gladly accept the challenge.''

Marco Reus (Team Captain): ''The task facing us is anything but simple, but we have the talent and the quality to rise to the challenge. We look forward to some exciting encounters.''
